It's been dubbed the "Black Friday" of hat sales and on Thursday, the Kentucky Derby Museum's "Big Brims Derby Hat Sale" did not disappoint.
The annual sample hat sale featured more than 600 fascinators, hats, and hatinators (larger than a fascinator, smaller than a wide-brimmed hat) in bright, beautiful colors embellished with feathers, bows, ribbons and polka dots.
Of course, the big selling point is how little you'll spend per hat at this sale. While typical fancy hats worn to the Thurby, Kentucky Oaks, and Kentucky Derby can cost hundreds of dollars, the sample hats sold at the Kentucky Derby Museum's special event cost no more than $75, and some hats are as low as $16.
"People absolutely love this sale," said Rachel Collier, communications director at the Kentucky Derby Museum, 704 Central Ave. "We get a huge turnout every year."
With prices so low, shoppers at Thursday's sale snatched up multiple hats from large tables where the pieces were organized by color. There was also a table filled with men's straw fedoras and boaters where both men and women stopped to shop.
